Lake Vermilion May 2018 fishing news for the second weekend of the season found most of our guests having their usual fish fry and taking limits home.  As expected, minnows continue to work best with the water temp falling back below 60 degrees with the cold nights we have had.  Dave tried a leech for a short time yesterday, but quickly switched back to a minnow as Eric and Diane continued to boat walleyes on chubs.   While walleye was king over the weekend, there were some nice smallies caught – a 21″ by Dan Doherty and a 19.5″ by his son Jake.  Several nice jumbo perch were also caught, including this 14″ fatty by Eric Noyes.

We were happy to see the familiar faces of the Noyes and Tasky groups and appreciate their business over the past many, many years.  Here are a few of the pictures they shared with us, with more to be found on our Facebook page  https://www.facebook.com/Everett.Bay.Lodge.Lake.Vermilion.

The 2018 City Auto Glass Walleye Classic was held on Saturday as well, and the conditions at start time were less than ideal.  High wind and rain plagued the 125 teams for the first part of the day, giving way to sun later in the day.  A record weight of over 21 pounds for 6 fish won the $15,000 first place prize, with Everett Bay Lodge guests Shane Holman and Tyler Glad placing 8th and Dan & Jake Doherty (last year’s winners) finishing 24th.  A shout out to team Lescarbeau for their 5th place finish, and team Betterley just 2 spots out of some cash at 22nd.  Sounds like the secret for the winners was a couple 26″+ fish out of shallow water – just like fishing for bass.

Some of the fish our guests caught include:

Walleyes:  27″ Steven Geiselman, 26.5″ Tyler Glad, 26″ Parker Osborne, 25.75″ Dan Doherty, 25.5″ Roger Branum, 24″ Parker Osborne, 24″ Eric Gooden, 24″ Dan Doherty, 23″ Dave Hermann. 23″ Mike Kniffin, 22.5″ Lucas Carroll, 22″ Shane Holman, 20″ Justin Johnson, 20″ Tom LaDuke.

Smallies:  21″  Dan Doherty, 19.5″ Jake Doherty

All in all it is shaping into a pretty solid start to the season.  The forecast for this week looks terrific.  If you are flirting with a trip north this weekend, we have one option left.  In June, we have one 3 nighter starting June 6th and one spot the week of June 23rd.

Stop wishing…Come fishing!
