Kids catch fish on Lake Vermilion – for some it was their first fish…for others it was their biggest.  For all it was fun!

First fish fun!

First fish! June 2018June 2018

It was an up and down week with some stormy days getting in the way of serious fishing, but overall most guests caught fish for fish frys and there was plenty of activity around the resort.  Many families spent the week with us and when they weren’t fishing or swimming they enjoyed several of the area attractions such as the American Bear Center, the Wolf Center, shopping in Ely, the Soudan Underground Mine and more.   As the photos show, it was refreshing to see so many young anglers enjoying all that Lake Vermilion has to offer.  Whether it was first fish caught off the dock or personal bests, the smiles and excitement those fish generate can’t be beat.   The Novak kids caught the fish shown above and Aaron Al Ibrahim caught and released the nice northern shown above.  Don’t miss Jocelyn Rolfson’s nice Lake Vermilion largemouth bass seen on our Facebook page here:  https://www.facebook.com/Everett.Bay.Lodge.Lake.Vermilion

Most of our guests looking for walleyes switched over from minnows to leeches, and with the slow start to the mayfly hatch, the 1/2 crawler presentation should take off soon.  Bass have been hitting about everything, with plastics producing the most consistent catch.  Tim Magee and Bob Kmoch gave them plenty of attention this past week, and caught several smallies in the 18 – 19 inch range.   Musky action has been limited for our guests, with a handful of sub 40’s being caught.  Heard about a huge one that didn’t make its way into the bottom of the net yesterday.

The Graczyk crew has arrived for their week, and if their first day on the lake is an indication of what the week holds, it should be a great trip for them.  They have had great results, catching a nice variety – walleyes, bass and northerns.  They are always good about sharing their pictures so check back next week.

In addition to the many fish that made their way to the skillet, some of the fish we heard about include:  18″ Largemouth Bass – Jocelyn Rolfson.  19″ Smallmouth Bass – Tim Magee.  18″ Smallmouth Bass – Tim Magee X 2.  23″ Walleye – Ben Safar.  22″ Walleye – Danny Weinreich.  20″ Walleye – Jim Safar.

Lake Vermilion water temp is 67 degrees this morning, and after 2 days of lots of rain, the extended forecast looks just perfect.  With that in mind, consider a trip north.  While we don’t usually have any weekend stays during this prime window, we can squeeze in a Friday & Saturday night stay in our smallest cabin, Cabin 10.  Pretty economical way to spend a weekend on Lake Vermilion.  Cabin 6, our most economical 2 bedroom option, is open starting on Saturday.

Stop wishing…Come fishing!
