Early September Lake Vermilion walleyes

As August wrapped up, the crank bait bite for decent walleyes continued.  We had several cabins of guests report many limits of nice walleyes, eating a couple meals here and taking some home too.  Just the way it is supposed to go!

Ozzy and Max, shown above, caught most of their walleyes trolling cranks – the largest just under 20″- and they picked some up on minnows too.  There were a few slot fish caught and released. For the most part the walleyes were either perfect for the skillet or an indication of some pretty good walleye fishing down the road as the many smaller ones eventually mature.   RJ Wagener caught and released a 22″ and a 20″ walleye.

Those that fished muskies had some luck.  Ben Collette fished with Matt Seifert, and they boated a 43″ & a 52″ and other guests saw some action but nothing in the bottom of the net.

As has been the case through most of the weeks in August, the smallie action has been pretty steady.   Although we didn’t hear about any huge ones, there were good numbers caught.

September is kicking off with much needed rain, we expect some of the best fall fishing to be approaching.  The weeks will go by quickly, so if you are pondering one more jaunt up to beautiful Lake Vermilion, let’s get it set up!

Stop wishing…Come fishing!
