Lake Vermilion mid July fishing

Lake Vermilion mid July fishing for our guests has been up and down, just like the weather.  Plenty of people marking nice schools of fish on the graph, but feeding behavior has been pretty difficult to predict.  Lake Vermilion guide Cliff Wagenbach spent a day with Jon Wilson and some of his family, and they caught 17 walleyes and a lot of really nice jumbo perch.  While fish are being caught on the main lake structure, from one day to… Read More »

Lake Vermilion fishing July 12th

Lake Vermilion fishing July 12th report ends a week of ups and downs.  Those that stayed with it and put in their time seemed to have success, but it was not one of the easiest weeks of the season.  We were happy to welcome first time Lake Vermilion visitors Ray Miller and his 9 buddies all the way from Ohio.  When a group of ten guys travel all that distance with intentions to eat fish every morning with their breakfast… Read More »

Lake Vermilion early July fishing

Lake Vermilion early July fishing garnered mixed results as for many groups the  July 4th holiday week was more about family time, boating and relaxation.  Lake Vermilion was hopping and the Tower parade, as always, received high praise.  We had easy success on smallmouth bass and those that targeted walleyes found them anywhere from 2 to 24 feet.  We caught walleyes really shallow on leeches and artificials, catching a good number that were big enough to release.  There were several… Read More »

Lake Vermilion fishing June 27, 2015

Lake Vermilion fishing June 27, 2015 report finds a week of several good size fish taking center stage.  While the season started out as one of many 10 – 12 inch walleyes pointing to strong future years, the past week was one of most catchers reporting 1/2 of their fish falling in the catch and release range.  Many guests such as Rick Rozycki shown above with a nice 27″ Lake Vermilion walleye (as one of his boat mates catches a… Read More »

Lake Vermilion fishing mid-June

Lake Vermilion fishing mid-June is off to a good start.  Walleye size has seemed to move in the right direction, with nice size keepers and several larger fish being caught and released this past week.  Add to that plenty of action for those looking for bass, and it was a pretty solid week for our guests. To start things off, the Hulsebus brothers began their trip with  a day on the water with Lake Vermilion guide Buck Lescarbeau, and it… Read More »

Lake Vermilion Early June fishing

Lake Vermilion early June fishing is producing an abundance of walleyes and smallmouth bass.  While the lake has continued to rise with the steady doses of rain we have gotten, those who have ventured out in the sometimes less than comfortable conditions have been rewarded.   With plenty of fish to eat throughout the week and a limit of walleyes for each of their crew to take home, Virgil’s gang had a good week of fishing during their annual Lake… Read More »

Lake Vermilion fishing report for May 2015

Lake Vermilion fishing report for May 2015 – The first week of the season found us catching up on our rain deficit and getting the weather we usually find in late April.  As of yesterday, the Big Bay water temp of 51 degrees was below it’s temp earlier in May.  So what’s that done to the fishing????  Well, many boats reported catching LOTS of fish, but they also reported having to stay at it to come in with perfect size… Read More »

Lake Vermilion fishing opener

Lake Vermilion fishing opener report – Everett Bay Lodge guests reported mixed results this past weekend, with many groups reporting catching their limits.  Based on the activity in the fish cleaning shack, those pesky 10 & 11 inchers of last May have grown into some very nice eaters.  While cleaning cabins for the next crew of arrivals, the aroma made it obvious there were a good number of fish frys over the weekend. On Saturday an hour long outing… Read More »

Lake Vermilion Walleye Hatchery 2015 sneak peak – Everett Bay Lodge

Lake Vermilion 2014 open water season in the books!!

Just in time as the ice on the bay has formed with no plans to retreat.  The Bowman crew finished up their annual week long stay taking advantage of every bit of Everett Bay’s last open water Mother Nature had to offer.  The water temps dropped just as the crew arrived, and it was definitely a week of transition.   We appreciate Bob Bowman’s reliability in getting us some end of the season pictures!  Still a handful of items on… Read More »
