Lake Vermilion fishing mid-May 2016

Lake Vermilion fishing mid-May 2016 found our guests of the second weekend of the season catching another nice mix of walleyes – with plenty to fry in the skillet and many taking their limits home as well.  Like last weekend, minnows were the bait of choice – and the weather was so nice we almost felt guilty – after the conditions folks faced the weekend prior.  At any rate, more good size walleyes were caught and released, with some… Read More »

Lake Vermilion opener 2016 fishing report

Lake Vermilion opener 2016 fishing reports were favorable, with most of our guests eating fish and wrapping up their visit with an outing to catch their limit to take home.  Minnows were the bait of choice, and based on the locations they shared with us, active fish were spread out in many areas of the lake, with just as much variety in terms of depth.  Four feet to thirty feet! We have much to be thankful for as we were… Read More »

Lake Vermilion Walleye Hatchery 2016 starts

We stopped by the hatchery this afternoon and were welcomed as the first visitors to make their way across the planking.  Found the DNR staff all set up and just waiting for the Lake Vermilion walleyes to arrive for the 2016 Hatchery work.  They reported the water temp at 35 degrees, about 10 degrees cooler than the temp when the activity is at its peak.  They are catching suckers and had 7 male walleyes so far today, but expect… Read More »

Al Lindner – Angler Edge on Lake Vermilion walleyes

Al Lindner Angling Edge on Lake Vermilion walleyes – Sound interesting?  A program about Lake Vermilion walleye fishing filmed last fall on beautiful Lake Vermilion is currently airing in several different markets.  Are you: wondering what some of the best artificial walleye baits are and how to “work” them? curious as to where the Lake Vermilion walleyes go after Labor Day? interested in knowing the most overlooked fall walleye location? unsure of whether you should be using mono or braided… Read More »

Lake Vermilion 2015 season winding down @ Everett Bay Lodge

Greetings from the Northwoods!  Last year at this time the ice had completely covered Everett Bay.  What a difference a year can make!   So far the fall has turned out to be one of the most mild we can recall.  Nonetheless, it is time to wrap up the resort season and look ahead to 2016, our 17th season at the resort. As fishing years go, “inconsistent” would probably be the single word that best describes 2015.  When it was good,… Read More »

Lake Vermilion mid September fishing

Lake Vermilion mid September fishing – Everett Bay Lodge guests have had mixed results.  August ended with some really high temps only to find us lighting cabin heaters and sleeping with the windows closed as the first week of September ended.  Now we are back to 80 degrees, nice green grass, and some inconsistent fishing.   Haven’t had a lot of really big fish caught, but those who caught walleyes caught some very nice eaters.  The Rolfsons ate fish every… Read More »

Lake Vermilion August fishing

Lake Vermilion August fishing this past week was good at times, and a struggle largely due to unusual weather at other times.  Some first time Lake Vermilion anglers caught their limits to take caught home and ate fish here too, but it wasn’t that easy for everyone.  Smallies continue to be the most active catch, with a good number of 3 + pounders caught & released.  Three muskies were reported between 44 & 47 inches.  Fish our guests told us about were:… Read More »

Mid August Lake Vermilion fishing – Everett Bay Lodge

Mid August Lake Vermilion fishing – Everett Bay Lodge guests had mixed results.  In short, some of everything was caught, but it wasn’t the easiest week on the lake.  Guys fishing for Bass caught Muskies, guys fishing for Muskies caught Bass, and there were some walleyes caught – both eaters and larger ones.  The Henseler boys along with nearly 40 of their relatives, spent their family reunion up here, and they quickly realized a net would have been a good… Read More »

Lake Vermilion Early August fishing

Lake Vermilion early August fishing found the Muskies and Smallmouth Bass continuing to steal the show.  Just ask Zach Brennan, who spent the week boating 7 muskies, the largest a 53.5″ Personal Record for him.   He caught 3 that were over the 50″ mark.  Not a bad way to celebrate High School graduation before he heads off to college!   Check out the photo album on our resort  Facebook page – “Zach Brennan’s week on Lake Vermilion” to see… Read More »

Lake Vermilion late July fishing

Lake Vermilion late July fishing brought mixed results, largely due to a longer than usual stretch of windy days.  7 of 10 cabins had returning guests with lots of years of experience on the Big V, and it was not as easy as usual for them.  High temps late last week and early this week brought Big Bay surface water temps into the 80 degree range, only to find them drop by over 10 degrees as several days of high… Read More »
