August fishing on Lake Vermilion holds steady

August fishing on Lake Vermilion holds steady as we approach the midpoint of the month.  Last week continued where the prior week left off, with Lake Vermilion guide Buck Lescarbeau leading our guests to some productive spots.  The Johnsons and their grandson Jordan were just short of their limits on a 1/2 day outing when they arrived on Saturday, Jordan taking big fish honors with a 23″ walleye he caught & released.  Their next 2 days on the lake were… Read More »

Lake Vermilion offers up Largemouth, Smallmouth, Northerns and Walleyes……

Lake Vermilion Largemouth, Smallmouth, Northerns and Walleyes —- and maybe a few muskies too!  Plenty of variety this past week.  And even better, some pretty reliable photo sharers, so here is just a sneak peak of some of the pictures shared this week.  Be sure to check back tomorrow for the weekly fishing news and more pictures! Who says you have to come north in June???? Stop wishing….come fishing!

Good Lake Vermilion August fishing

Good Lake Vermilion August fishing started off with a mixed week.  The first part of the week was a little tough, but the Wednesday cool down and increased winds really picked things up.  While we usually expect a cold front to have the opposite effect, this time after several days of flat calm water and warmth, the more than 15 degree temp drop and the increase in chop churned things up enough to get things going.  Lake Vermilion water temp… Read More »

Late July fishing on Lake Vermilion

Late July fishing on Lake Vermilion was a bit inconsistent, with some guests doing well while others seemed to struggle.  There were numbers of walleyes caught, but several were just short of keeper size.  On the flip-side there were some slot fish released.  The Tinsley guys bumped their May trip back to July to catch some kinder weather, and while the conditions were definitely nicer, the fish were in their typical summer spots, leaving them fishing lots of spots that… Read More »

Lake Vermilion July fishing

July is moving along quickly, with the past week again producing decent numbers of walleyes for many guests, mostly perfect for the skillet.  Mike & Peggy Stone spent their anniversary up here, and as shown above, had several decent outings.  When a visit to Zup’s for fish fry fixins jumps into your plans, its a good day!  They caught each time they left the dock.  The Slater / Anderson group spent some time with Cliff, and though the first day… Read More »

What are the walleyes eating on Lake Vermilion?

What are the walleyes eating on Lake Vermilion?  Guests who caught their limits of eaters found both crawlers and leeches to produce fish.  There was an abundance of action for some of our guests who caught plenty of numbers, but big fish were harder to find.  The Buans were back in on Sunday morning cleaning some eaters, and everyone in the boat caught, so it was a fun way to start their week.  While Jason had the fish cleaning honors… Read More »

Lake Vermilion July 4th week fishing news

Lake Vermilion July 4th week fishing news – with the holiday falling midweek, while the resort was full it seemed as though lake activity was a little less social and those fishing had decent results.  Even though the weather was threatening, the July 4th festivities were well received, with the fireworks adding a nice finish to a full list of activities. We had several Lake Vermilion first timers with us, and many of those that fished had walleye meals, took… Read More »

Lake Vermilion June wrap up

Lake Vermilion June wrap up found the last week of June a pretty solid fishing week for many of our guests.  As noted at the start of the week, several returning guests found their way onto some great eater walleyes on Sunday, and found the same general area to produce nearly every time they hit it.  A couple times the year class they caught was just below eater size, but they caught some nice keepers later in the week too. … Read More »

June fishing on Lake Vermilion stays strong

June fishing on Lake Vermilion stays strong, with many guests reporting one of their strongest weeks up here.  The bite was pretty consistent, and there was great variety in terms of walleyes big and small, bass both large and small mouth, nice panfish, jumbo perch, plenty of northerns and some muskies including a Tiger musky.   Many fish were caught and released. While the minnows have been put away for the most part, there continues to be a nice leech bite… Read More »
