August fishing on Lake Vermilion holds steady

August fishing on Lake Vermilion holds steady as we approach the midpoint of the month.  Last week continued where the prior week left off, with Lake Vermilion guide Buck Lescarbeau leading our guests to some productive spots.  The Johnsons and their grandson Jordan were just short of their limits on a 1/2 day outing when they arrived on Saturday, Jordan taking big fish honors with a 23" walleye he caught & released.  Their next 2 [...]

Good Lake Vermilion August fishing

Good Lake Vermilion August fishing started off with a mixed week.  The first part of the week was a little tough, but the Wednesday cool down and increased winds really picked things up.  While we usually expect a cold front to have the opposite effect, this time after several days of flat calm water and warmth, the more than 15 degree temp drop and the increase in chop churned things up enough to get things [...]

Late July fishing on Lake Vermilion

Late July fishing on Lake Vermilion was a bit inconsistent, with some guests doing well while others seemed to struggle.  There were numbers of walleyes caught, but several were just short of keeper size.  On the flip-side there were some slot fish released.  The Tinsley guys bumped their May trip back to July to catch some kinder weather, and while the conditions were definitely nicer, the fish were in their typical summer spots, leaving them [...]

Lake Vermilion July fishing

July 2018 July is moving along quickly, with the past week again producing decent numbers of walleyes for many guests, mostly perfect for the skillet.  Mike & Peggy Stone spent their anniversary up here, and as shown above, had several decent outings.  When a visit to Zup's for fish fry fixins jumps into your plans, its a good day!  They caught each time they left the dock.  The Slater / Anderson group spent [...]

What are the walleyes eating on Lake Vermilion?

What are the walleyes eating on Lake Vermilion?  Guests who caught their limits of eaters found both crawlers and leeches to produce fish.  There was an abundance of action for some of our guests who caught plenty of numbers, but big fish were harder to find.  The Buans were back in on Sunday morning cleaning some eaters, and everyone in the boat caught, so it was a fun way to start their week.  While Jason [...]
