The state of Minnesota closed on the
3,000 acre deal with U S Steel to create a new state park on
Lake Vermilion. It should be very beautiful with many trails
and sites for visitors to enjoy. The development will take
place over the next several years.
The weather over the last ten days or
so has been unsettled which has made for some unpredictable
fishing. Real good one day slow the next. Fish have been
caught various ways with no significant pattern. Early
mornings and late evenings have been the most productive.
Water temps are in the sixties. Mayflies are hatching very
early this year.
We have had some very big walleyes
caught regularly. Chuck White caught a 26, and a 27 was
reported from Mike Rozinski's group. A 22.5 was caught by
Lisa Foster. Chuck White also released a 20 inch largemouth
bass. Harlan VanWyhe released a 23 inch walleye.
