Opening day was very pleasant and warm
this year with water temps in the mid 50's in shallow water.
Fish were caught at all depths. Most walleye were caught
somewhere between 12 and 35 feet. After the water touched
the sixties here in the bay it turned cold the last two
days. We even had some snow flurries this morning.
There's no shortage of decent walleyes
being caught and returned to the water this year. Many in
the 20-27 inch range. Northern have been in the cabbage most
in the 22- 24 inch range but a few 26-28's have been caught.
Last weekend we did have some success
with the bluegill up shalllow on sunny calm days. Smallies
have been caught off shallow rocks as well this week. It
seems things have been running a little early since ice out.
We saw spawning muskies before opener almost every day.
