Fall Patterns in Place

2006-09-26

"Go deep," said Woody Spaugh to a years ago question of a younger less experienced fisherman on his fall walleye success. This is the case now as Bob Jensen of Fishing the Midwest show caught them with me in 33-40 feet on live bait rigs and jigs with minnows. Bob was filming a show that should be on some time this winter. We managed to catch 40-50 fish yesterday.

Water temps are in the mid 50's. We've had some rain over the last couple of weeks but we need a whole lot more. It won't be to long before we start to get ready for winter.

Muskie action is slow. Some decent northern have been caught on muskie baits. Craig Jansen boated a 43" recently. I had a fat 36" last week.

Grouse hunting is good this year. I've seen plenty of birds compared to the last three years. It should only get better in the next few years. The upswing has started.

May your pole always be bent! Dave
