The DNR always says a nice warm June is
critical for a strong fish class. If this keeps up it should
be good news for the 06 class. The weather the last two
weeks has been great. We got some much needed rain
overnight. The lake is down about 5 inches from opener.
Walleyes continue to be caught with jigs
tipped with a leech and some minnows in fairly shallow
water. Crank baits have been working well on the walleye and
northern. We've had some really nice walleye and bass boated
and released. Jim Blevins had a 22" walleye as did Derek
Kmoch. Jerry Mink released a 21" largemouth and Jim Blevins
released a 19 1/2 smallmouth. Many 17-18 inch smallmouth
have been caught a released this past week.
The bass have probably gotten a great
deal of their spawning done in a very short period of time
based on the delightful weather we've had. I had a 40"
muskie hit a bass lure that provided a thrill on Saturday.
The fish turned and went under the boat for a quick release.
