Walleyes Starting to Recover from Hatch

2004-07-18

The mayfly hatches seem to be over. Thank goodness. The Binger's from Colgate, WI did well in some shallow water with leeches. Brian Hurth caught and released a 24" walleye and Andrea Hurth released a 22" walleye. Gloria Binger released a 24" walleye and her husband Tom released a 22" walleye. Tom also caught a nice 18" smallie. Brian Schlenger caught and released a 25" walleye. We should have Brian's picture on the recent photos page if all goes well. Some main lake humps have started to hold fish.

The muskie action was steady for the Schlenger's all week. Mike managed to boat a 32" and a 37" on Friday. They saw quite a few muskie each day on rocks and weeds. Mike also boated a great looking 31" northern. Willie Hall boated a 44" muskie last night and Martin Fudulov boated a 48" early this morning. With Eric's help netting the fish this afternoon I managed to boat a 44" . What fun these giants can be!

We haven't had many people fish for smallmouth this past week. The Binger's caught and released quite a few while fishing for walleye in shallow water throughout the week.

May your pole always be bent! Dave
