The Water Warms

2004-06-03

What a difference a couple of warm days make. The water temperature in the bay is now 64 degrees. Some blue gill and largemouth have been caught pretty close. Walleyes have been caught in 12-28 ft. of water primarily along shorelines. Some shallow walleyes have be taken as well trolling or casting. Harlan Van Wyhe's first fish was a 28 incher this week.

Eric and I spotted some spawning muskie yesterday right at our dock. Diane, Eric and Valerie have spotted a few while out on the paddleboat.

We've had quite a few bald eagles hanging around our place this year more than normal I'd say. Yesterday we had one in the tree at the end of our dock. Spring can be an interesting time to see birds. We've seen Baltimore Orioles this year and Hummingbirds.

Slip bobbers and leeches have been working on some smallmouth locations. Paul Hrvol, Jr. caught an 18" smallie today and he started at the dock with a nice 15 inch largemouth.

I've heard of a report that the crappies were thick in Mud Creek Bay this past week. Have not experienced this first hand though.

May your pole always be bent! Dave
